Afrikanews.org (Afrika is Swahili for Africa) is a web magazine aimed at correcting the persistent under-coverage of Africa by international media. Every month, Afrikanews.org spotlights some of the most under-covered stories on the continent.

Journalists, researchers, educators, librarians and others interested in Africa are called upon to suggest news stories from Africa that have been under-covered or misrepresented. The under-reported stories may be stories that were never covered or big stories, which received less coverage than they deserved.

Using these suggestions, correspondents, stringers, and citizen journalists spread across sub-Saharan Africa are assigned the task of writing the stories.

Additional content is availed to this site by the use of RSS (Really Simple Syndication). We tap from tens of news sites in Africa to provide up-to-the-minute breaking news from Africa, affecting Africa and /or Africans.

Also, Afrika News uses RSS to dip into numerous blogs established to offer opinion about Africa. The site is reaching out to common people on the streets and providing them with an avenue from which their opinion, and sometimes news, can be accessed. It also aims at promoting blogging in cities and towns around Africa. More bloggers on the continent will ensure a steady flow of information on the site and boost the coverage of Africa.

The site promises to be the largest reservoir of news from Africa.
